No wonder relationships are so difficult. We are all constantly growing and evolving. She also challenged me to think about why it was so difficult for me to feel so out of control during the experiment.
My own personal therapist has told me that I have major control issues. He says I like to highly control, organize, and curate every aspect of my life as a way to cope with a painful situation from my past which I had no control over. He has challenged me numerous times to face this fear by completely letting go and relinquishing all control. In some strange way, this experiment ended up being the answer to this.
When I take on too much, I become miserable, and both my work and relationships suffer. Did you learn anything new about Timothy? Jocelyn discussed how men will repeat this pattern in a way to identify with or feel closer to the absent parent. Over time, this pattern only makes the person feel emptier, as they never develop meaningful relationships. Did you learn anything new about yourself?
In the past I have put too much pressure on myself to determine if the person I was dating was right long-term. Tim mentioned how it would be a tremendous relief to date without the burden of recording everything every day. Completely changed some thoughts on love, dating, and uncertainty. Really made me think. May 03, books. I remember staying up late one night to read the journal entries on the website. Despite the obsession to read everything I could find about the experiment that night, it somehow slipped my mind until I stumbled upon a post or was it an article online saying that the duo were publis SOME SPOILERS AHEAD although it may not be considered spoilers given what's been available on the internet after the book's release I had read about the experiment when a friend posted a link about it on Facebook.

Despite the obsession to read everything I could find about the experiment that night, it somehow slipped my mind until I stumbled upon a post or was it an article online saying that the duo were publishing a book about their journey. I knew I wanted for sure that I wanted to read the book.

After a few weeks of exploring options to purchase it, I finally bought one copy from Amazon. It took me a few weeks after getting the book to read it.

Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I also had a hard time resisting flipping to the back because I was so curious about the ending! In the end I just had to know the ending before going through all 40 days worth of journal entries. That sort of affected the way I read the second half of the journal entries, so for those of you who haven't read the book, please try to resist the temptation to flip to the back! The ending was a bit unexpected and I wish Jessica shared more about her experience with Zak, like how exactly they met, the dates they had, and how she was feeling considering that she met Zak within a very short time from the end of the experiment Book 2 perhaps???
The illustrations in the book are great and make the book even more entertaining and colourful. Unfortunately some of the illustrations got cut off because of the formatting of the book. While the day journal entries benefit from being put side by side, the post-experiment entries were a bit hard to read because Jessica and Tim's entries ended on different pages and the dates were not synchronised. For the most part of the day journal entries, I read from the left to the right Jessica's entry, then Tim's entry , and only towards the end did I realise that it was more interesting to mix the order up once in a while so Tim's entry first, then Jessica's.
Funny how Tim and Jessica could perceive a date or event differently. I really enjoyed reading the book and could see myself flipping through it again in future. For those who want to see updates on Jessica and Zak, see: Mar 24, Sarah rated it it was amazing. I'd already read the blog but knew that I wanted more.
And boy, did I get more I find myself a little more each time I read through the experiment: But the second time around, I identified much more with Tim. This came as somewhat of a shock seeing as the first and second read through were maybe two weeks apart; nothing major had happened i I'd already read the blog but knew that I wanted more. This came as somewhat of a shock seeing as the first and second read through were maybe two weeks apart; nothing major had happened in my life between then and now. I wish all my friends would read this already so I'll have someone to talk to!
But even more so, I hope this would strike a chord with the man who broke my heart. We're both on both sides.
40 days of dating day 37
Also, the layout of this book is so genius I can't even describe it. It perfectly matches how my brain processes information and didn't feel complicated at all which I know plenty of my friends would complain about if they would ever even pick up a book. This is an amazing study in sociopsychology, and I will carry it with me for the rest of my life.
I'm also grateful I read it while single; I'm pretty sure my analyses of this experiment would make any man run for the hills. Oct 23, Hi rated it really liked it. I randomly came across this book never having heard of the blog. To rate this book I need to divide it into two sections. The 40 days male female perspective, and the follow up. For me the 2nd half carries the book. I went to the blog after reading the book, and the blog stops on day The book picks right up and cries on till about a year later.
It also has friends thoughts on love in brief commentaries. They were so funny.

While I really liked the book, I have to say by day 10 I was ready to t I randomly came across this book never having heard of the blog. While I really liked the book, I have to say by day 10 I was ready to toss it! By day 15, I was aiming at a window. By day 20 I'm like finally. If you feel the book is to slow at first I say jump to day 15, if after reading to day 17 you still feel the same go to day 28 and go from there. If you are still feeling like no skip to day 37, The follow up is much better than the blog diary imho.
Here is the thing while I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I have to say it felt really slow to get started. I always end up having to finish a book once I start, in this case thank goodness. By day 28 I was hooked. The follow up 2nd section for me made it all worth it! Mar 09, Nicole rated it liked it. I first read around the first half of 40 Days of Dating on the http: Earlier this year, I found out that it was published into a book, which is nice.
So I got myself a copy of the ebook. Overall, I think the concept works better on the website than the ebook. The formatting is sometimes off, and I can be nitpick-y about this on the ebook, at least; I can't say for sure how the printed book looks like. You also can't view the videos d I first read around the first half of 40 Days of Dating on the http: You also can't view the videos duh , which are an excellent part of the project. However, I did like how there are additional things like the interviews with both Jess and Tim, and other people at the beginning of the book that you won't see on the site.
Still, the core of the project is still there. I really enjoyed reading the journal entries and the side comments from Jess and Tim! I feel like they became my friends after reading their thoughts on very personal things, like intimacy and childhood. If I'd give a Goodreads rating for the website, it would be 4 even 4.
But the ebook only gets 3. Apr 07, Lena rated it really liked it.
40 Days, 40 Habits You Should Break; Day #37: Striving For Perfection
This book is so different than any other I've read-- in its presentation and its subject matter, it kept me guessing from start to finish. I don't want to give anything away to those of you who may want to read it, but it is essentially this: Two long time friends are tired of being unsuccessful in the daring world, so they decide to date each other for 40 days.
There were six rules designed to force them to spend time together, create intimacy of all types, not just emotional or physical , and This book is so different than any other I've read-- in its presentation and its subject matter, it kept me guessing from start to finish. There were six rules designed to force them to spend time together, create intimacy of all types, not just emotional or physical , and keep them committed to the experiment.
It was so fascinating to see the different perspectives men and women have about the same experiences. I loved that aspect-- that each day was presented like a journal from both Tim and Jessie.
Add in the screenshots of emails, texts, and other related documents, and you've got me hooked. It took me four hours to devour this book-- and watch all the related videos online.
